How We Test Hosting Providers

Every hosting provider on HostingPicks is evaluated across 5 categories, each scored from 1 to 10. The overall rating is a weighted average of these scores.

1. Performance (Weight: 25%)

We evaluate server response times, page load speeds, and uptime. Fast hosting directly impacts your SEO rankings and user experience. Providers with LiteSpeed, NVMe storage, or premium infrastructure score higher.

2. Support (Weight: 20%)

We test support channels (live chat, phone, ticket) with real questions. We measure response time, knowledge level, and whether agents can actually solve problems. 24/7 availability with multiple channels scores highest.

3. Pricing (Weight: 25%)

This is where we differ from other review sites. We do not just look at the promo price. We evaluate: the gap between promo and renewal rates, required commitment length, what is included vs. upsold, and the true cost over 2-3 years. Providers with transparent, fair pricing score higher.

4. Features (Weight: 15%)

We assess what is included in the plan: SSL, backups, CDN, staging environments, email, migration support. Providers that include essentials without upselling score better.

5. Ease of Use (Weight: 15%)

We evaluate the signup process, control panel, WordPress installation, and overall user experience. A beginner should be able to launch a website without reading documentation.

Updates

Pricing data is reviewed and updated regularly. Provider ratings are re-evaluated when significant changes occur (pricing changes, infrastructure upgrades, support quality shifts). Each review page shows the last updated date.
